Case StudyGarden's Gourmet · Tacoma, WA

A restaurant site that talks to the register.

Garden's Gourmet is a fresh-lunch kitchen by day and a wine bar and lounge after five. Their old site showed the first business and hid the second. We rebuilt the whole thing — and then kept going, into the ordering and the software behind the counter.

The situation

The owner runs a real wine program — pours, frosted wine, a beer list — inside what most of Tacoma knew only as a healthy lunch spot. The website was a builder template: menu drift, generic photos, and an identity that went dark at 5pm exactly when the room got interesting.

The constraint that shaped everything: the restaurant already ran its ordering, loyalty program, and gift cards on a system that works and that staff know. Replacing it would have been billable and stupid. So the rule became keep the machine, rebuild everything customers see.

What we built

The site.A warm, editorial rebuild with the day-and-night split at its center — fresh market by day, candlelit pour list after five. Wine pairings from the owner's own guide, the house dressings on their shelf, catering that drills down to real priced items instead of a PDF.

The ordering. Ordering stayed on the system the restaurant already pays for — we moved it to its own address and pointed the new site at it, so nothing broke and no commission appeared. A fully native in-page ordering flow is built, tested against their live checkout, and staged for switch-on.

The back of house.A separate staff platform: kitchen order board, order punch, 86 board, opening and closing checklists with temperature flags, a shift logbook, and announcements with read receipts. It exists so the restaurant runs the same on the owner's day off as it does when the owner is standing at the pass.

Details that mattered

The menu writes itself
The site's entire menu is generated from the restaurant's own register system by one script. When a price changes or a dish appears at the register, the site follows. No developer required for a Tuesday special.
Every price audited
While wiring the menu we checked all 181 items and their modifiers against the register, line by line — and caught a duplicated modifier charge before it ever reached a customer's bill.
A cutover nobody noticed
The new site took over the domain during a closed weekend. Email kept flowing, the old ordering links kept working through redirects, and Monday's customers just saw a better website. Zero minutes down.
Their photos, not stock
The restaurant had years of real food photography sitting in its old site. We re-graded 116 of those photos in place — color, light, crop — instead of replacing a real kitchen with a stock one.
